Overview

The two supreme rivers of India, Ganga and Yamuna, have their pious temples in the high altitudes of Uttarakhand.

Yamunotri: Yamunotri Dham is the first Pilgrimage stop. The temple marks the starting point of river Yamuna. According to the legends, Sage Asit Muni use to take bath in both the holy rivers of Yamuna and Ganga. But as he grew old, he was unable to go and cover his bathing procedures in both the rivers every single day. Seeing his devotion, a small stream of Yamuna River appeared next to the already existing Ganga River, near the Kalindi Parvat. It is believed that anyone taking a holy dip in Yamuna River will not be taken to Yam Lok.

Gangotri: The story of formation of Gangotri Temple dates back to the ancient ages, when Ganga river didn’t used to flow on the earth and was staying in the heavenly realm. King Bhagirathi had gone to the Goddess and performed intense meditation to please goddess Ganga and bring her down to earth to wash over the mortal remains of his ancestors and grant them Moksh. Seeing his deep state of meditation, goddess Ganga decided to descent on the earth by making her way through Lord Shiva’s matted hair.

With this journey of 6 Nights /7 Days, delve yourself into the exploration of pilgrimage. In this magnificent journey, you will explore something more than the deep history of Hinduism. Along the way, you will visit the Vishwanath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, witness the mesmerising landscapes while on trek to Janki Chatti and Dayara Bugyal meadows, the sacred water of Surya Kund and Bhagirathi river. The spiritual essence is never lost throughout this journey as it starts from the “gateway to gods” Haridwar and ends up at Rishikesh ” The Yoga capital of the world”.

Yumnotri and Gangotri are both at high altitudes and being a single day trip, devotees usually don’t encounter any serious altitude sickness. However, some may feel mild breathlessness, fatigue, headache or slight nausea which are manageable.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the Himalayan terrain, weather patterns can rapidly change from clear skies to torrential rain/snow within minutes, particularly during the Do Dham Yatra Season. When traveling to high altitude locations (e.g. Yamunotri), lack of oxygen is one of the major reasons for requiring medical fitness. This is also true when travelling to Badrinath or Gangotri/Kedarnath. Since the possibility of suffering from altitude sickness exists for those pilgrims who are not prepared. • Get a medical check-up • Carry essential medicines • Keep warm clothing, rain protection, and energy snacks These are marked among the most Important Tips for Do Dham Yatra Pilgrims.

The best time for Do Dham Yatra is from May to June and September to October. These months are favourable since all temples open during April month and the road conditions are stable, also the weather is warm during the day time. Daytime temperatures usually range between 12°C to 25°C, while nights can drop to 12°C - 8°C, in Yumnotri. You shall expect sunrise around 5:15 AM to 6:00 AM and sunset between 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM, depending on the month. You should skip travelling in monsoon season as landslides/road blocks causes delay.

May–June: Peak travel season, weather is bright and sunny
July–August: Monsoon, risk of delays and roadblocks
September–October: Post-monsoon, cool weather
