Overview

Dedicating the journey to the abode of two supreme Gods in Hinduism, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, the Kedarnath Badrinath Yatra will become a spiritual journey for the travellers. Kedarnath, the most popular Lord Shiva temple of the world, is nestled in the Himalayas. Following the beautiful landscapes and mesmerizing peaks, the temple is accessible by a 16-kilometre trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Temple. The trek is a kind of experience in itself, but the pious darshan of Kedarnath makes it an ultimate destination. The second attraction to this tour, Badrinath Dham, is among the most revered Hindu temples of India. A Darshan of Lord Badrinarayan in Badrinath temple is akin to attaining peace of life.

Along the way, the trip unfolds many beautiful places of Uttarakhand to you; you will see the unequivocal beauty of Holy rivers like the Ganga at Haridwar, Alaknanada at Rudraprayag and Saraswati near Mana village. Also enroute, take a dip in the revered Tapt Kund and Narad Kund (hot water pool) that sanctifies the soul of pilgrims.

Kedarnath and Badrinath are both at high altitudes and being a single day trip, devotees usually don’t encounter any serious altitude sickness. However, some may feel mild breathlessness, fatigue, headache or slight nausea which are manageable.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the Himalayan terrain, weather patterns can rapidly change from clear skies to torrential rain/snow within minutes, particularly during the Do Dham Yatra Season. When traveling to high altitude locations (e.g. Kedarnath at 3583m), lack of oxygen is one of the major reasons for requiring medical fitness. This is also true when travelling to Badrinath or Gangotri/Yamunotri since the possibility of suffering from altitude sickness exists for those pilgrims who are not prepared. • Get a medical check-up • Carry essential medicines • Keep warm clothing, rain protection, and energy snacks These are marked among the most Important Tips for Do Dham Yatra Pilgrims.

The best time for Do Dham Yatra is from May to June and September to October. These months are favourable since all temples open during April month and the road conditions are stable, also the weather is warm during the day time. Daytime temperatures usually range between 12°C to 25°C, while nights can drop to 12°C - 8°C, in Yumnotri. You shall expect sunrise around 5:15 AM to 6:00 AM and sunset between 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM, depending on the month. You should skip travelling in monsoon season as landslides/road blocks causes delay.

May–June: Peak travel season, weather is bright and sunny
July–August: Monsoon, risk of delays and roadblocks
September–October: Post-monsoon, cool weather
